I love makeup, and I’ll admit I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes down to it. Makeup is one of those things that seem too precious to throw away if it’s in a beautiful bottle and don’t get me started on the boxes.
Today, I thought I’d share my first ‘What’s in my makeup bag’ blog post. My makeup is frequently changing so I decided I’d do these every so often to keep you updated! Of course, I have many favourites, in fact, too many to list, so I have chosen my most used, and ultimate treasured products.
Let’s start with the basics and go with brushes! Recently I got new brushes which I adore and they’re the No7 Core Collection Brush Set from Boots. These brushes are incredibly soft and durable, your essential set for professional results at home or on the go. The foundation brush is the perfect shape for blending minimal product across your face if you want a light makeup day, which is amazing for a natural look and doesn’t make you look cakey. The blusher brush is tapered and fluffy, the softest brush you’ve ever felt! I can use very pigmented blusher and it applies a soft focus amount and blends incredibly, due to its correct size. I’m no expert at makeup and the appearance of your makeup depends on your application, these are a high recommend and they will last ages.
I got given this Clinique Moisture Surge Cream to try out and I wouldn’t look back. I have combination skin which can be a pain at times; I never know whether to use moisturiser as I don’t want to come out with breakouts but with this product I have no worries. This product can be used whenever, wherever needed, under or over makeup! Seems like a dream come true, right? I simply place this all over my face and rub it in gently before I apply my makeup, the cream is very thin, light and dries incredibly fast, it instantly restores moisture and makes my skin feel more refreshed, with my dry patches immediately gone and my face doesn’t get oily either! Perfection in a bottle.
The current foundation I’m using is the Bare Minerals Blemish Remedy. I love this foundation because for once it’s designed for people who get breakouts and fights to stop them. I’ve had many foundations that haven’t agreed with my skin and it’s been awful trying to figure out one that suits me properly but with this one I haven’t got a problem. It’s gentle yet effective, non-dying, mineral powdered and helps conceal imperfections and reduces the appearance of blemishes for clearer-looking skin. This foundation surprisingly has Aspen Bark and Tea Tree Oil to help promote clearer, healthier-looking skin and Aloe to help soothe and refresh. I’ve noticed that my redness has now reduced and it controls my oil and shine. (Yay!) Blemish Remedy has quite a full coverage however it’s lightweight and flawless. Undeniably something you need to try out if you are prone to breakouts.
Next are two products from Benefit Cosmetics which I use daily. They are ‘They’re Real!’ mascara, and ‘Gimme Brow’ volumizing gel. This mascara is the best mascara I have ever used and it’s something I will never stop using. It makes me eyelashes look incredibly long and thick and the brush manages to get every single lash. This mascara is extremely long-lasting and doesn’t smudge a bit, which is perfect because at some point in every woman’s makeup experience we’ve looked like a panda a few times. Gimme Brow is great as a finishing touch. Firstly I apply my eyebrow pencil and then take my gel and brush it through all of my hairs. This product creates a bold brow which builds very easily; you’ll only need a tiny bit.
Another favourite is the Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub; the fact that you can eat this product makes it x10 better! All I do is apply this product to my lips and let the caster sugar exfoliate my lips, it gets rid of all my dead and dry skin and doesn’t leave any greasy residue which is a pro. I then apply my lipstick care-free.
Speaking of lips, my final product is the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipsticks; I have the colour Nectarine Shimmer and it’s perfect. The colour is bold and dependable with just the right amount of shimmer, not too little, not too much. It’s an orangey-red colour and is fantastic for spring time. I sometimes apply a lip gloss over the top so it isn’t too harsh but it completes every makeup look without fail.
So there you have it, you now know my most beloved products of this spring! Do you have any must-haves? Let me know!
