Hello, everyone! I’ve been slacking a little when it comes to blogging recently because I’m drowning in assignments but thank god it’s half term! No more getting up at 6:30 am and walking to town in the winter mornings (well for a week, anyway).
I’m starting work experience next week in a nursery, and the dress code is smart casual. I hate smart casual. What even is it? It’s not a suit, and it’s not jeans, I feel like turning up in my PJ’s, the kids won’t know the difference! Even so, I set on a little shopping trip and gathered a couple of items which I think you’ll love just as me. I decided to stick to smart black jeans or plain black trousers which are pretty basic but I know that all my tops are going to get ruined with snot, paint, glue and glitter so I got some inexpensive blouses to complete the look!
The first item I got is this stripped black, navy and white Bardot shirt with adorable buttoned sleeves. I managed to grab this from Primark although I can tell it’s not the most amazing quality it will certainly do the job at work! It goes perfectly with black trousers, and I’ll be wearing it outside of work too. The only frustrating thing about this top is that the whole off shoulder thing can become a bit frustrating with it constantly pinging up (it has made me jump a few times!). A professional look which is still extremely fashionable and the silk/chiffon material feels light and breathable.
The next item is another shirt from Primark, but it’s slightly more practical. This cream blouse looks so cute with the all of the buttons done up for that classy look. It’s versatile, so I’m able to mix and match with jeans, trousers and a skirt. I’m in love with anything lace and frilly, a true girly girl, I know!
Coats. My heaven, my happy place. I grabbed this jacket last year in Topshop, so it’s no longer available, but it’s too good not to share with you all. Powder blue is such an elegant colour, and this duster coat is incredibly classy. I always team this little number with boots and a decent tote and it completely transforms your outfit from a 0 to 100. The soft feel of it makes it so snuggly and comfortable, ideal for those dark mornings!
Talking about totes; last but not least is my favourite bag of all time. In need of a new one? Then River Island is your go to. Again, I purchased this cute gem a while ago but it’s lasted me forever. There are so many similar ones around so do not worry! Everyone needs a little black bag in their wardrobe and with loads of room inside to fill with useless crap who wouldn’t want one?
What’s your smart casual look?
