How To Make Unicorn Toast

June 5, 2017

If unicorn toast hasn’t popped up on your Instagram explore page recently then where have you been? The photogenic take on breakfast is going to change your morning routine forever. If you’re all for sprinkles, rainbows, sparkles and tasty treats then this one is for you.

What is unicorn toast?

Unicorn toast sounds so majestic and complex but in actual fact is just cream cheese with your fav food colouring to make it that snazzy pastel pink you’ve always wanted on toast. If you’re not a cheese person (which should be illegal), then opt for a more sweet treat such as whipped cream or marshmallow fluff to have a super puffy cloud for breakfast.

However, if you don’t want chemicals for breakfast, then go for the healthier version. To make the rainbow effect use natural pigments which are not only vibrant but also get you better pastels. Beetroot juice can make hot pink, strawberry powder makes the pastel pink, orange or lemon zest can be for orangey-yellow, chlorophyll for the light green, spirulina powder for light blue and blueberry for the beloved purple. When it comes to unicorns, there is no right or wrong answer. You can start your day by telling everyone you’ve had the most majestic breakfast and you are 100% glitter queen.

The prep time for this beauty is 15 minutes or less. I guess it depends on how awake you are when you get up on a Sunday morning (if 1 pm still counts as morning).  As you can see from my pictures, it’s so perfect and almost looks too good to eat! I tend to stroll down with my ‘I am a unicorn’ t-shirt on and get making. Of course, this is while eating a handful of chocolate buttons during the process and wondering why I even bother going to the gym because my willpower is non-existent.

Be sure to show me your results of this tempting treat and let me know what you think of this latest trend in the comments below!
