Rough day? We all get them, tension rises and emotions build up, leading us to take it out on the people we love most. Of course, we don’t mean any of this but it can course further problems. None of us want to feel stressed, so here are some tips on how to calm down after having a bad day.
Accept that you can’t control everything
Firstly, why do you feel stressed? How important is it? Is it necessary right at this moment? Sometimes we can feel stressed for no reason, or feel stressed over something that isn’t our problem but because we care about that person. Re-evaluate how you’re feeling and put it into perspective. I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think it is. Our minds tend to go into overdrive and make things seem worse than they actually are. There’s always a solution.
Take time out
Try to escape from the problem, let your mind rest, stress is caused by over thinking so try and get out and do something away from the problems itself. People begin to get ill from stress if they’re consumed by it. Know your limit and take care of yourself.
Talk to someone
Have a chat with a friend or family member about how you’re feeling. They’ll be able to give you a second opinion and help you through your feelings. Usually, I feel better after having a chat, it relieves your mind and you come out feeling more refreshed. If you find that you’ve been stressed for a longer period of time then go to a doctor and try to see a therapist, it’s someone who is out of the situation with a clearer mind.
Distract the mind
Go out with friends, read, or just do something you enjoy. Distracting the mind for a while can help you feel less stressed and maybe even resolve the problem. Sometimes people need a bit of space, give yourself a day or two. Using relaxation techniques and positive thinking will certainly help you. Try not to think about the problem. The worst thing you can do is sit and dwell on the situation; it’s not mentally healthy.
Have a bath
Baths are the perfect way to unwind, for extra calming effects add essential oils, such as lavender and eucalyptus. Having a warm bath induces sweat meaning you’re removing toxins from your body and you come out feeling replenished. Make sure you add lots of bubbles and perhaps a bath bomb! After all, who doesn’t love them?
Get enough sleep
Sleep is the best cure for making you feel good again the next day. After your bath, make sure you get an early night, your body needs the extra sleep and rest. Sometimes we do get stressed over not having enough sleep; it can make everyone mardy from time to time. Stick to the same sleeping schedule and make sure you’re comfortable. Have a warm drink before bed as it can increase sleepiness.
Of course, this advice is only for people who are having the off day. If you’re stressed for a long period of time and are starting to become unwell, then consider seeing your doctor.
